Travel to events

Public transport

Leave the car at home and take advantage of the free travel included with your ticket. Many high frequency services operate across the Gold Coast and some services will be enhanced (including improved frequency and/or hours of operations) during the Games. The train, G:Link light rail, local buses and GC2018 shuttle buses will all be free to catch with your Games ticket to provide a seamless end-to-end journey for spectators*.

Walking and cycling

Walking and cycle paths across the city will be upgraded and enhanced to support direct access to transport hubs, Festival hubs and competition venues. These upgrades will be supported by bicycle parking near each of the venues.

Park ‘n’ ride

Park ‘n’ rides will be available to ticketed spectators to access GC2018 venues and transport services including GC2018 shuttle buses. Park ‘n’ ride sites will include facilities for spectator comfort and safety and will also accommodate motorcycle and accessible parking.

The park ‘n’ ride sites will be free to use, but will need to be pre-booked in advance. Each park ‘n’ ride site will service specific venues. Park ‘n’ ride access will be restricted to ticketholders.

Accessible travel

GC2018 facilities and services are designed to provide an equitable transport experience. Accessible GC2018 shuttle buses and park ‘n’ ride spaces will be available during the Games. More information about accessible public transport will be available in early January 2018.

Travelling to unticketed and Festival 2018 events

A number of unticketed and Festival 2018 events are available to attend during the Games. Walking, cycling or public transport may be your best option to access these events.

If you are thinking about going to these events on the day of your Games event, public transport options will be available to take you to the celebrations. Please note that dedicated GC2018 shuttle buses will run for a limited time after the events and park ‘n’ ride spaces have an allocated time period.

If you want to attend these free events and don’t have a ticket to a Games event, you will need a go card or go explore card (for Gold Coast) to travel by public transport. Find out more about your ticketing options at

Dedicated GC2018 shuttles and park ‘n’ rides will only be available for use by Games ticketholders.
