The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) arts and cultural program will seek to capitalise on the Gold Coast and Queensland’s cultural strengths and build on the outcomes of community consultation undertaken around the state. The program will feature a wide range of creative activities and events intended to generate a festive atmosphere in the lead up to and during Games time.
As well as enhancing the GC2018 experience by creating a buzz and sense of excitement throughout the Gold Coast and in our three event cities - Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns, the cultural program will result in significant legacy benefits for local communities. It will:
- accelerate the growth of Gold Coast arts and culture and activate creative communities across Queensland.
- provide a chance to reinvent our cultural identity and change the way Queenslanders experience and perceive local arts and culture, up to and beyond 2018.
The GC2018 arts and cultural program will:
- celebrate the spirit of the Commonwealth through arts and culture.
- actively engage Queenslanders in arts and culture.
- uncover and showcase the best of our culture and our active, healthy lifestyle.
- enhance and extend the Games experience.
- transform local arts and culture.
From major public art commissions to collaborations with performers and artists from across the Commonwealth, from live events to hands-on arts activities, the GC2018 arts and cultural program will have something for everyone.
Planning is well underway to deliver an exciting arts and cultural program to enhance the GC2018 experience and grow Queensland’s arts and cultural capabilities.
World-renowned contemporary performance company Circa have been appointed Creative Lead for the Gold Coast component of the program.
