What are the dates of Festival 2018?

You’re invited to take the plunge into Festival 2018 - 12 action-packed days of culture to celebrate the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games from 4 to 15 April.

Festival 2018 offers something for everyone, the young and the old, for the community and the arts aficionado.

You can experience music, theatre, circus, dance, ideas, visual arts and film from our corner and across the globe.

The festival is free for spectators, visitors and residents alike.

Where can I find Festival 2018?

The Festival 2018 action takes place at two main festival sites, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, as well as an array of activations across the coast.

Festival 2018 at Surfers Paradise features the Main Stage program – 12 nights of specially curated concerts celebrating the Commonwealth and our local culture - as well as large scale installations and performances for the family to enjoy.

Festival 2018 at Broadbeach features an entire street - Surf Parade - of entertainment, including high energy, circus, dance and physical theatre on the Roundabout Stage as well as the Queensland Music Stage, a stage dedicated entirely to Queensland musicians.

Kurrawa Park will deliver the best children’s and family theatre, workshops and performances from around the world for the entire school holidays. There is something for everyone, children as 6 months old right through to the young at heart. All free!

The Festival will also entertain people journeying to and from sporting events, and will also spill out onto boardwalks, waterways, streets, parks, a hotel and other unexpected places across the entire coast.

Can I perform at Festival 2018?
Programming for Festival 2018 on the Gold Coast has now been finalised. Unfortunately we cannot accept any further submissions from individuals or organisations wishing to participate.
What is the best way to travel to the festival?

There will be no car parking in or around the two main Festival sites at Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, however, there are several public transport options:

  • Take the train
  • Hop on a bus
  • Ride the G-link
  • Or walk, cycle, skate, rollerblade, scoot.

Will events still be on if it rains?

All outdoor stages and activities will go ahead as planned, pending a safety assessment, in rain and inclement weather.

Please check individual event pages and the Festival 2018 social media channels for updates if changes are required to the program due to inclement weather.

Is there food and drink available at Festival 2018 events and performances?

Access to food and amenities will be determined on the location of each event.

We encourage you to pack your meals and enjoy a picnic while soaking up the Festival atmosphere, or visit the many cafes and restaurant surrounding the Festival sites.

Can I bring alcohol to Festival 2018?

No, alcohol is not permitted at Festival 2018 as it is not prohibited in public places in Queensland. Alcohol can only be purchased consumed in licensed venues.

Will I be able to buy alcohol at Festival 2018?

No, Festival 2018 is an unlicensed event.

Are there any age restrictions?

No, Festival 2018 covers for people of all ages. However, please note age guidelines have been provided for some performances. Please refer to the individual event pages.

How can I become involved?

Thank you for your interest in participating in Festival 2018 Gold Coast. Applications for volunteers and performers have closed. We encourage you to check out our website for other opportunities to get involved in the lead up to and throughout the Festival.

Can I use my camera? Can I take photos?

Yes, but please be mindful of performers and avoid using flash photography. Please tag us @Festival2018 and #Festival2018.

How much do tickets cost?

The Festival is largely free with a very small number of events charging a small fee. Please visit our event pages for each Event City to find out more details and plan ahead.

I have purchased tickets. What happens if I am running late?

We will make every effort to ensure our events start on time. Late admission will be subject to the venue manager's approval. Festival 2018 organisers reserve the right to exclude late attendees or to let them in only during a performance break. Please make sure you plan ahead by checking your ticket and travel details.

Are there any items I cannot take to Festival 2018 events and performances?

Festival 2018 is a largely free and public event. In the best interests of safety and security and for your comfort it is recommended that baggage carried into the Festival areas are limited. Police and Security will be monitoring the area and you may be asked to have your bag checked to ensure the safety of the event.

What facilities are available on site?

Each Festival 2018 site will vary depending on the location. For the two major sites in Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise there will be accessible toilets, baby change facilities in amenities and ATM's.

What can I do with my children?

Kurrawa Park has the majority of children’s performances, activities and workshops. For most events you don’t need to book a ticket, just turn up early on the day. If an event or workshop session is busy, there will be plenty other things to keep the kids entertained. So pack your meals and make a day of it in Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach.

Lost property from Gold Coast Festival sites will initially be stored at the Festival 2018 information booths at Surfers Paradise and Kurrawa Park. If unclaimed at the conclusion of the Festival, lost property will be held by the Festival 2018 office. If you wish to discuss a lost item, please call 0481 971 627.

What is the best way to travel to the Festival?

Avoid traffic and parking by travelling to the Cultural Forecourt and QPAC by bus, train, ferry or bike!

CityCat and Ferries
Glide along the river on a CityCat or ferry, stopping at the South Bank ferry terminal on the Clem Jones Promenade. Take a short walk along the well-lit promenade.

Train
South Bank and South Brisbane train stations are a short walk from the Festival 2018 Hub and QPAC. The South Brisbane Station is located 400 metres from the Cultural Forecourt.

Bus
The Cultural Centre Bus Station is located adjacent to the Cultural Forecourt.

Bikes
Pedal your way along Brisbane’s extensive bike paths to arrive at the Cultural Forecourt. Plan your ride by visiting www.cyclingbrisbane.com.au and use the online route planner. A CityCycle station, where you can hire a bicycle is also located on Russell Street, South Brisbane.

Where can I find Festival 2018?

The Live Site for Festival 2018 in Cairns will encompass the western and eastern sides of the Cairns Lagoon Precinct and cater for live music and family entertainment.

The Esplanade will be closed to traffic between the corners of Aplin Street and Shields Street for a safe, family friendly environment where visitors can enjoy Games broadcasts on the big screen and a boulevard style environment for dining.

The performance of Beginnings: A Musical Story of Cairns will take place at the Munro Martin Parklands and other Festival 2018 events will be at the Cairns Art Gallery, Tanks Arts Centre and UMI Arts.

What is the best way to travel to the Festival 2018?

Buses

Buses are the most popular form of public transport for Cairns residents and visitors.

 

The Sunbus network operates a comprehensive service and timetable within the city and to all surrounding suburbs. You can view bus timetables on their website or via the qconnect real time bus tracker service from the Queensland Department of Main Roads and Transport.

 

Taxis

Car Hire

Push Bikes

Cairns is a wonderful city for cycling.  The relatively flat landscape within the city and extensive purpose built bike paths and cycling tracks make bike riding an easy, eco-friendly and healthy way to get around Cairns city and suburbs.

 

Walking

There are many options to get you to and from Festival 2018.  If you're travelling locally, walking or cycling will be the easiest way to get to Festival locations.

Many bus routes, including 200 and 201, can take you close to the venue.

Taxi or passenger pick up and drop off options can take you close to Festival locations. Taxi ranks are located on Sir Leslie Theiss Drive and the passenger pickup area is at the old bowls club on the Strand.
