The Squad | Debase Productions (AUS)
Be on the look out for this highly physical and comical troupe of street theatre performers across this coast.
Turning the ordinary into the extra-ordinary, taking the mundane and turning it insane and injecting comedy into the everyday, this band of misfits will be roaming the streets for your viewing pleasure.
Bringing together local emerging and established circus and physical comedy performers from South East Queensland, The Squad is a new troupe developed especially for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Using the Games as inspiration their roving performances range from sporting themed acts: 'The not so normal Netballers' who present the most peculiar game involving a giant hoop and balls, 'Everyone's a Winner Baby' – a hilarious medal ceremony celebrating sporting heros crossed with glam rock stars, 'The Longest Race' - a comical relay race that seems to never end.
"Expect the unexpected." The Herald Sun.
Keep an eye out for this act across the coast.
Festival 2018 has more than 50 roving street performers that will surprise and entertain as you journey to and from selected sporting venues.
Discover awe-inspiring life-sized puppets, floating jellyfish, dancing zebras, an all-girl hip hop crew, drummers, acrobats and more.
About the creator:
Debase Theatre Company produces a wide range of work for a wide range of audiences; from children’s theatre, to comic drama, to cabaret. The company employs a highly physical and collaborative approach to developing new work which is strongly influenced by the teaching of Philippe Gaulier and his philosophy that successful performance begins with a sense of play. Working with a vision to enact social change through comic performance, Debase believes comedy empowers audiences to reflect and critique vital issues. In 2018 Debase will celebrate it’s 20th birthday as an independent theatre company.
The Squad is directed by Liz Skitch and produced by Debase Productions.
